While competition for the 2018 Winter Olympics kicked off on Thursday, February, 8, Friday marked the official start. At the opening ceremony in PyeongChang, South Korea, delegates from almost all of the 92 countries participating walked in the Parade Of Nations, giving viewers a proper look at their team uniforms in all their glory. Here in the States, we caught a glimpse of the Ralph Lauren-designed U.S. opening ceremony looks back in January: Boasting the traditional red, white, and blue, these jackets are also heated to help block out the cold that was anticipated for the celebrations. Those first photos only got everyone more hyped to see what the rest of the world would bring to the Olympic stage.
As Fashionista reported, participating athletes wore their own clothes or private athletic club uniforms when the modern Olympics first started back in 1896. Now, it's customary for everyone participating to match their fellow country-people, regardless of sport, for the opening ceremony. Aside from that, the looks for each nation range wildly: At the last Olympics, in Rio, the opening ceremony outfits consisted of everything from simple, neutral-colored suits to checked bomber jackets to patterned track pants.
It's safe to say the priority for this year's uniforms was warmth (NBC reported on "record-breaking cold" weather predictions in PyeongChang for opening weekend) but that doesn't mean they can't look cool, too. Here's every single opening ceremony uniform from the 2018 Olympics.
