We Deserve The Disney 'Bambi' Remake From 'SNL'

by Allison Piwowarski

Saturday Night Live welcomed back a veteran SNL host with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, making it the fourth time Johnson has hosted the show during his career. Johnson, who is currently promoting the Furious 7, promoted a new film on SNL that is Disney's next remake, Bambi . Considered "Disney on overdrive," the new Bambi is brought to audiences by Furious 7 filmmakers, which may be why it feels like no Disney film you've ever seen before. Which is exactly why we deserve to have this Bambi movie actually made.

In the new Bambi film, Johnson plays the titular doe-eyed Bambi, even though this is like no Bambi you've ever seen before because, well, it's The Rock. The softest thing about Johnson's Bambi is the black painted deer nose, but other than that, his Bambi is a deer you don't want to mess with. Bambi is out to seek revenge on a hunters club that took his mother's life ICYMI in the original film, and helping him are a crew of his forest friends, Thumper, Flower and female Bambi (played by Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, and Michelle Rodriguez — played by Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah, and Cecily Strong, respectively).

The movie is like the hardcore, raw version of a Disney film. There are a hell of a lot of guns, shootings, gadgets in the remake, basically everything Disney stands for (right?). Even though the film doesn't scream "It's a small world, after all," I would actually urge Disney to pursue this film because it was pretty appealing to the "too old for Disney," and "too young for Liam Neeson" group of audience goers. And though it involves Bambi screaming "Deer Crossing Motherf—ker," before opening fire on the humans of the film, it still manages to find the lighter, more heartwarming moments, when Bambi can appreciate a butterfly landing on his nose. Once again, we deserve this movie Disney.
