Is Felicity Jones Is Heading To 'Star Wars?'

by Allison Piwowarski

After many hushed rumors about which Hollywood starlet would land the lead role in the upcoming stand-alone Star Wars movie, Felicity Jones is apparently thisclose to taking on the role of female lead. After rumored tests and readings with some of Hollywood's most talented actresses — including Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany and Rooney Mara — the Hollywood Reporter reports that Lucasfilms and Disney have "zeroed in" on the Oscar nominated actress, Jones.

But, what exactly is the Star Wars standalone spinoff? There isn't too much known about the story of the movie, but we do know it will be directed by Gareth Edwards, and Oscar nominated screenwriter/director Chris Weitz will pen the script.

Sadly, however, it looks like we'll be waiting a long while to find out anything more about the movie: With Star Wars: Episode VII set to come out in Dec. 2015, this stand-alone Star Wars movie won't be released until Dec. 2016. Jones was initially rumored for Episode 7, but from the looks of her current filming schedule — she was also rumored in Dec. 2014 to be in talks to star in the third Da Vinci Code film opposite Tom Hanks — she seems to have a lot on her plate for the next year or so.

The Hollywood Reporter also reports that Aaron Paul and Edgar Ramirez are rumored to be male lead interests for the film. And in those regards, I'd just like to say, "YAAS."
