Kerry Goes Metallic at the Globes

by Kara McGrath

She might not have had the advantage of an adorable baby bump this year, but at the 2015 Golden Globes, Kerry Washington absolutely stunned in a metallic, purple Mary Katrantzou dress. On a carpet that's been largely black and white (slash cream slash eggshell slash... you get it), I was stoked to see the real life Olivia Pope take a bigger risk with her gown for the evening. Is it for everyone? No, probably not. But Kerry Washington would look better in a paper bag than most people would in haute couture, so, IMO, she completely pulls it off.

The print is... well, not even exactly a print. From far away it looks vaguely snakeskin (which would have completely ruined this look for me), but up close it's giving more of an abstract, art deco vibe. As for the color, I couldn't be more obsessed. Purple is a hard shade to pull off — even more so than pink, I'd say — but Washington nails with the bright orchid and deep lavender color blocking. Between the sweetheart neckline, two-toned heels, and the fact that her lipstick matches the lighter hue on her gown? This ensemble is a big freakin' dream come true.
