4 Benefits Of A Breakup That’ll Make Life More Delicious

by BDG Studios

Sure, breaking up is hard to do, but that’s not why you’re here. You’ve come to read about all of the good that happens when you make the switch to get what you really want in life. “There are many situations in which a breakup is a right decision for both parties,” says Iman Hariri-Kia, Bustle’s Sex & Relationships Editor, and even if you’re not looking to break up with a person, I’m sure there are other habits and products in your life that need to bite the dust.

To remind you of the benefits of kicking an old flame to the side and moving on to better, Bustle and Tillamook County Creamery Association (TCCA) teamed up with Iman to learn some of her best advice. TCCA is all about upgrading your life with more delicious cream cheese spreads, cheese, ice cream, and more, and they believe in spreading deliciousness so much that they’re launching a Cream Cheese Break-up Hotline to help you say goodbye to boring, bland spreads and hello to a new boost of flavor to love. Like most of us, Iman has been buying the same lame cream cheese her whole life without even realizing there might be newer, better-tasting options on the market like Tillamook Cream Cheese Spreads. Her big cream cheese breakup resulted in a richer, creamier breakfast thanks to Tillamook Original and the new Chive and Onion Cream Cheese Spreads.

So if you’re considering a breakup of your own, you’ve come to the right place. Read Iman’s advice below, then call Tillamook’s Cream Cheese Break-up Hotline at 844-SAY-GBYE to get even more positive breakup energy in your life.

Who knows? Maybe you’ll be inspired to upgrade that old cream cheese after all.

1. Breakups teach you to follow your gut.

If something feels off, it probably is, and sometimes your body will tell you something is amiss before you even really get it. “Our body and intuition can often alert us to sensations our mind hasn't yet processed,” Iman explains. “If something feels off, follow that feeling and discover what it leads to.” Honor your gut instincts, and break up with the habits, people, or even products (!) who are no longer serving you. Your body might just be telling you it’s time.

2. Stepping out of your comfort zone opens you up to delicious possibilities.

You never know what you’re missing out on. As Iman explains, a breakup can open you up to plenty of possibilities that are out of your comfort zone. “Start saying yes more, little by little,” she says. Even if your breakup is as simple as tossing your old cream cheese in the garbage, it can be incredibly liberating to step out of your comfort zone by trying something new. The more of these risks you take, the more you’ll want to take. “Check in with yourself to make sure you’re still feeling comfy and confident,” Iman says. “This feeling will build over time.”

3. You can find something that actually gives you what you deserve.

No matter what it is, if something is no longer giving you what you need, you’re entitled to seek a better option. When you’re hoping to find that next thing, put your best foot forward by figuring out what you’re really looking for. “By opening up an honest dialogue with the people in your life” and yourself, “you can maintain a fruitful relationship 24/7,” Iman tells us.

4. You can process your past and devour a richer future.

The first step of moving on from a breakup is to make room in your life for something better, according to Iman. It might feel different at first, but before you know it, a more decadent thing will come along. In the process, you can explore just being with yourself for a bit, assessing what you truly want — from the night’s movie to watch, or what you spread on your bagel.
