In Bustle’s Beauty Detail, we dive into the beauty bags of our favorite talents for intel on the rituals that keep them glowing and the MVPs (most valuable products) they can't live without. Here, Teyana Taylor tells Bustle about her all-in-one shower routine, and the skin care step she refuses to skip.

For Teyana Taylor, self-care is everything. “If you don’t have self-care, you don’t have anything,” she tells me over the phone. While the multi-hyphenate star may be a busy entrepreneur and mom, it’s immediately clear as we talk about her beauty routine that taking time for herself is integral to her day.

Because of her hectic schedule, Taylor’s skin and body care regimen hinges on her time in the shower — the only moment of her day where she says she has a moment to practice her self-care rituals. She takes full advantage, transforming this time into a full spa experience complete with soothing incense and music. “Once that music is on, that’s when I can really zone out,” she says, noting it makes a huge difference in her mindset. “Self-care gives you that natural positivity. Feeling good makes you have a good day.”

While Taylor’s shower time may get cut short occasionally — after all, she is a busy mom — there’s one step in her routine she absolutely won’t skip, no matter what: moisturizing.

“There’s nothing like hopping out of the shower, throwing on the towel, and not getting to lotion your body,” she says, a shudder in her voice. “It's the worst feeling in the world. I will literally get back in and get myself damp just to moisturize myself.”

Taylor has a secret for those moments when she has to hop out of the shower, though: Olay’s Nighttime Rinse-off Body Conditioner. The body product — which she partnered with Olay to launch — is massaged into the skin and then rinsed off, leaving behind the hydration Taylor craves without ever having to leave the tub. “When I tell you how soft my skin is after using it, it doesn’t make any sense,” she jokes.

That said, she admits she’s a fan of DIY beauty. Her go-to concoction? “I mix essential oils with a little bit of olive oil, coconut oil, and shea butter, plus vitamin E oil or vitamin E cream,” says Taylor. “I put it in a little cake mix bowl and stir it, and it’s the best [for moisture]. My friends always want a jar of my concoctions.”

Her Favorite Body Moisturizer

I put it on [after the shower], leave it on for a few minutes, rinse it off, then pat dry. And I don’t have to moisturize after that — it’s so hydrating.”

Her Makeup Essential

“My must is an eyebrow pencil from MAC, in either Spike or Stud, depending on how dark I want to wear my eyebrows that day. Then I’ll wear some lip gloss, some lip liner, and I’m out the door.”

Her Must-Have Hair Product

“My hair is really curly, so I love my mousses. I like this one because it doesn’t harden up and keeps [my hair] soft and defines my curls.”

Her Go-To Fragrance

“I like the way Tom Ford’s Bitter Peach smells and the way it makes me feel. I’ll alternate using this with Le Labo’s Noir 29 perfume for its clean scent.”
