NGL, I’m down bad for her plaid corset dress.

Sound the alarm: Taylor Swift is in the building (and ready to clean up her well-deserved awards, as per usual).

Though she was nominated for a whopping 12 Moon Person prizes this year, the “Anti-Hero” songstress didn’t actually confirm whether or not she was attending the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards — until she showed up. Fortunately for the countless Swifties tuning in, the A-list singer made a surprise appearance just before the red carpet closed, wearing a scene-stealing dress (and featuring some rocker-chic glam to match).

Taylor’s Plaid-On-Plaid Moment

Leaning into her rock star status, Swift showed up and showed out at the VMAs in a black and sunflower plaid dress featuring a cleavage-baring corseted top and a peekaboo skirt with ultra-short shorts underneath.

Adding to the early fall vibes with her grungy ’fit, the icon rocked a matching plaid choker in the same material, strappy black gloves that went up her arms (Reputation vibes, anyone?), and $1,550 Stuart Weitzman thigh-high black boots that lent sultry heat to her look. She adorned her ears with chunky black and gold earrings as a finishing touch.

She Ditched Her Signature Bright Red Lip

Adding to the cool-girl vibes, Swift’s hair and makeup were truly the icing on the cake. For one, her cool-toned blonde ’do was left long and voluminous, with effortless soft waves.

For her makeup, the singer painted her lips in a terracotta-red tone and opted for a striking smoky with matte gray eyeshadow pigments.

An Easter Egg-Filled Outfit Change?!

Later in the evening, Swift made a quick change into an chic (and disco ball-inspired) sparkling mini. Always one to tease an upcoming project in the subtlest of ways, the “Fortnight” artist’s second look included a spaceship detail, leading many Swifties to suspect it was a nod to a Tortured Poets Department fave.

ICYWW, the UFO motif is likely a reference to her song “Down Bad” as there so happens to be a spaceship during her Eras Tour performance of the song. Fans have speculated it could perhaps hint at a surprise performance of the beloved track before the award ceremony is through or, more likely, that she’ll be releasing a music video soon.

Either way, we’re sat.
