Taylor Swift Wore An LBD With A Major Thigh Slit To The 2023 MTV VMAs
This era might be her best.
Taylor Swift can refer to herself as an “Anti-Hero” all she wants, but her style always emits main character energy. Take the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, where the singer donned a spicy, scene-stealing LBD.
Swifties guessed right: Although she initially wasn’t confirmed to attend the Sept. 12 event, the “Lavender Haze” singer made a surprise appearance on the pink carpet. (She is, after all, the most-nominated artist this year with 11 nods.) And when she walked the carpet, all eyes were on her spicy ’fit by Versace.
On top, her LBD featured an asymmetrical neckline, featuring a strap lined with gilded Medusa medallions, the Italian label’s signature hardware — but the real shock factor of her floor-length number came from her uber thigh-high slit. It added drama to her strut, which was chicly punctuated by strappy stilettos. She finished off the look by piling on the jewelry, reaching for layers of chain necklaces, earrings, and rings.
Though Swift is firmly in her Midnights era, Versace is a label she’s loved for years — especially during her Lover era. But unlike her Versace ’fits of yore, which were bright and colorful, this dress better evoked the singer’s Reputation era. (Plus, mythology girlies know the gorgon Medusa was feared for her power, had an undeservedly bad rap, and had snakes for hair.) And if there’s anything Swift is gonna do, it’s leave Easter eggs with her looks.
Perhaps this means Reputation Taylor’s Version is finally coming. One can only hope.
