These AI-Designed Sunglasses Are About To Be Everywhere
Zenon-chic fashion has arrived.
It’s time to pack away your aviators and wayfarers (for now, at least). Recent eyewear trends have introduced more variety into the world of sunglasses, with retro-looking frames, rim-free silhouettes, and even space age-looking sunnies taking centre stage. And now, a new luxury eyewear brand is redefining what it means to launch an accessories line in the digital age. Say hello to Paloceras, the brand that uses cutting-edge technology and traditional craftsmanship to bridge the gap between the physical and digital worlds. Though they’re already big on the internet, with their recent sunglasses drop, Paloceras is about to be big in real life, too.
Earlier this year, Paloceras launched a digital eyewear store on Roblox, a gaming platform that allows users to play online games in different virtual worlds. The concept store is an immersive virtual environment where users can interact with the brand by trying on pairs of sunglasses and purchasing exclusive virtual items for their avatars. The brand is on Snapchat, too, so users can try on realistic-looking Paloceras eyewear via a special lens on the app. But this summer, after racking up over five million virtual try-ons, it was time for the brand to take their designs into the real world.
So Paloceras just launched their first sunglasses collection, Pebble, named for the allure of water-smoothed stones. Each pair of glasses has smooth, bubbly frames that evoke foam, froth, or (naturally) pebbles. The bold frames — which were designed in partnership between AI and human craftsmen — combine these nature motifs with technology, resulting in unique styles that elicit sci-fi imagery, too.
Each pair of sunglasses is meticulously crafted with premium Italian Mazzucchelli acetate, derived from cotton fibers and known for being exceptionally durable and lightweight. Mazzucchelli has been around since 1849, and while they started off manufacturing combs and buttons made with animal horn, bone, and tortoiseshell, the brand is now the worldwide leader in producing high-quality cellulose acetate for use in sunglasses and spectacles.
Shop The Collection
All glasses in the Pebble collection, which is currently on presale, will ship in early September. The collection has eight different colourways that cater to a range of different styles. But each design is sophisticated and trendy, and is made for “a generation fluidly navigating between digital and physical realms,” according to the the brand.
These sunglasses are made of a crystal pink acetate, a clear design with a barely perceptible wash of pink colour. The anti-reflective red lenses lend a bit more rosiness to the glasses. And, like all glasses in the Pebble collection, they have 100% UVA/UVB protection, meaning they offer both fantastic clarity and sun protection.
Designed with with slightly hexagonal frames, these green sunglasses hit that sweet spot between eclectic and wearable. To give them a multi-dimensional look, the brand used their DualBlend layering technique to blend together two acetate layers in slightly different shades. Each pair of glasses has Italian Visottica hinges and a custom wire core, too.
These classic tortoiseshell frames have gradient blue lenses with a scratch-resistent hard coating. And, like the other sunglass models, they come with a premium vegan leather case and a microfiber cleaning cloth.
