Over the past couple of years, corsets have been ubiquitous, from the runway to the red carpet to the stage (hey, Lizzo) to the covers of magazines (see: Adele’s British Vogue cover). And one of the trend’s biggest fans is our girl Olivia Rodrigo.
This fact was put on display last night at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards, when she stepped out in yet another skin-tight corseted dress — this time, a sultry black vintage number by Jean Paul Gaultier. The look — which she paired with strappy sandals and a hairdo that brings to mind Mandy Moore's iconic 1999 “Candy” music video — was utterly dreamy, late ’90s perfection.
The 19-year-old “good 4 u” singer is obsessed with corsets. In addition to rocking them regularly in her daily life, whether to perform or hit the town, she’s making the style one of her signature looks on the red carpet. Not only did she wear one last night and to the Grammys, but she also modeled a purple Versace Fall 2022 corset mini dress to the iHeartRadio Music Awards in March.
In conclusion, Rodrigo loves a corseted moment, and I’m right there with her. Personally, I hope she continues to reach for vampy, Regency-era-inspired looks forever.
