A gilded slay.

Among the biggest award shows, the Grammys have historically been the place for sartorial play, an opportunity for music heavyweights to push the boundaries. And at the 2024 Grammy Awards, held on Feb. 4, Miley Cyrus leaned into the bold dress code with a sheer gold gown made entirely from safety pins.

Miley’s Safety Pin Naked Dress

Cyrus’ golden ensemble channeled the glimmering outer of a Grammy statuette — which isn’t surprising at all, since her hit song “Flowers” is nominated for Record of the Year. (Perhaps it’s a manifestation technique?) The barely-there creation, however, was nothing like a gilded gramaphone.

Designed by Maison Margiela, Cyrus’ ensemble was completely see-through, and though it may have looked like your typical net dress, nothing Margiela does is ordinary. In fact, her outfit wasn’t made from fabric at all; instead, it was constructed from gold safety pins strung together.

The intricate neckline embodied an ornate neckpiece from empires of yore. It was utterly revealing, save for a smattering of strategic safety pin placements that created built-in nipple covers. The design also featured something of a draped loincloth that covered her sheer intimates underneath.

Even her choice of footwear — stiletto Mary Jane Tabis — harkened to the Grammy gold hue, making the look a monochromatic masterpiece.

Miley’s Big, Big Blowout

If her ensemble was over-the-top in the best possible way, that was nothing compared to her hair. The “Wrecking Ball” singer turned up in a massive blowout, the likes of which haven’t been seen since the heyday of Jane Fonda workout tapes.

The curls perfectly showed off her new golden highlights, which tied together her gilded getup.

This look will go down in Grammy Awards history.
