Singer Megan Thee Stallion’s Grammys dress 2021 resembles the fire emoji. Hot off the heels of winning for best rap performance, the “WAP” singer made her red carpet appearance in a vibrant orange gown with a thigh-high leg slit up to there.
It’s not at all unusual to see super-revealing slits on the red carpet — especially at the Grammys. Case in point? Back in the ‘70s, there was none other than Cher, who rocked a white bandeau top underneath a sheer wrap that landed just underneath her bellybutton in a deep “V.” Then, perhaps one of the most discussed Grammys dresses ever was J.Lo’s Versace dress in the year 2000. You know the one: Her green tropical-print gown with a cut down to her bellybutton. The next year, Michelle Williams, of Destiny’s Child, wore a leg slit up to her thigh bone on the Grammys red carpet.
The Grammys is known for being the event at which celebrities go all-out with their red carpet styles. It’s the awards show to take fashion risks at (see the outfits mentioned above as proof), so risqué slits are just one way for stars to wear an edgier-than-usual look.
Megan Thee Stallion’s not the only one with a high slit on the 2021 Grammys red carpet, either. Musician Dua Lipa’s gown features a thigh-high slit, and Doja Cat’s dress has a plunging neckline that is similar to the one on J.Lo’s famous Versace look.
