Katy Perry Freed The Nip At The 2024 MTV VMAs
And paid homage to Orlando Bloom’s most iconic role.
Katy Perry was just given the prestigious MTV Video Vanguard Award at the 2024 MTV VMAs, but she’s also a top fashion vanguard in my book. The “Roar” singer can outdress practically anyone in any room, whether via kooky, whimsical costumes or barely there numbers. She pulled the same stunt at the Sept. 11 awards show and shut it down in her nakedest, quirkiest, and most Orlando Bloom-coded look yet.
For starters, she channeled her husband’s Pirates of the Caribbean role looking like a sultry siren who washed up at shore. The look was more than an homage to pirate Will Turner, though — it also perfectly encapsulated Perry’s recent risqué DNA.
Katy’s Distressed Bra & Skirt
Perry wore a bra as a top with an asymmetrical, one-sided strap. The slinky piece was completely shredded, resulting in some see-through nip-baring parts.
To fully put her torso on display, she paired the brassiere with a floor-length maxi skirt slung low on her hips. The American Idol judge has been rocking Y2K-era trends in recent months, including the decade’s controversial dangerously low-rise bottoms.
She accessorized with a statement arm cuff and styled her hair in wet beach waves like she just stepped out of the water.
Peep Her QR Code Tattoo
The outrageously low waist had a purpose — it was the perfect canvas for Perry to flaunt her QR code tattoo on her lower back. The tat (presumably temporary) linked to her website so fans could pre-save her album. She was, quite literally, her own walking advertisement.
Honorable Mention: Orlando’s Dapper ’Fit
Perry wasn’t the only one who showed out — her fiancé did as well. Bloom walked the carpet with Perry looking as dapper as ever. Although his crisp vibe was the antithesis of Perry’s aesthetic, they arguably were the best-dressed couple of the night.
