Will The Unicorn Frappuccino Come Back?

by Emma Lord

Fellow humans of the '90s, welcome to your time in the sun — with the addition of the Lisa Frank-eque Starbucks Unicorn Frappuccino to the lineup, we are living in a universe that is officially '90s AF. Of course, all good things must end, and as of right now the magical beverage is only slated to exist from Thursday, April 19 to Sunday, April 23. Many enthusiasts are already wondering if the Unicorn Frappuccino will come back after the promotion is over. Bustle has reached out to Starbucks for comment, and will update this post upon response — but in the meantime, we can make some educated guesses on the fate of the Unicorn Frapp based on earlier limited Starbucks drinks of yore.

Starbucks described long-anticipated and highly-rumored beverage as "fleeting as a rainbow" in a press release on Monday, seeming to imply that this will definitely remain a promotion, and not be given a permanent fixture on the menu. It also mentioned that while it is available until April 23, it might only be available "until supplies last," which definitely means that stores have not anticipated making any drinks beyond the promotional period. And perhaps, given the nature of the drink, this is for the best. Isn't the true magic of unicorns that you were lucky enough to be #blessed by their rare appearance in the first place?

That being said, this doesn't entirely rule out the chance that the Unicorn Frapp will return — perhaps again in April 2018, or perhaps, given the magical nature of unicorns, in another time humanity needs it most. Other promotions have certainly seen yearly returns before, like the Starbucks Mini Frappuccinos in the summer, or even the Pumpkin Spice Latte in the fall. It's not hoping too much against hope to think that just maybe the unicorns will have a second shot at coming back as well.

In the meantime, be sure to get ye to a Starbucks to try this drink before April 23 — it is well worth the hype. With a base of crème frappuccino mixed with mango syrup and swirled with sour blue drizzle, then topped with whipped creme and pink and blue "unicorn dust," this drink is not only magical because it delicious, but because it does what no other Starbucks drink has done before — it changes colors and flavors. The purple gives way to pink, and the sweetness gives way to tartness, and your dreams give way to reality.
