With news that Season 5 will be the end for this Vampire Diaries spin-off, surely there's a chance that The Originals will have a spin-off of its own, right? Especially when you consider the open letter from the show's creator Julie Plec, which indicates that there may be more to the story.

In her announcement on Twitter, Plec encourages fans to watch the upcoming season, which is due to air next spring, while alluding to the notion that there could be more on the horizon. At the conclusion of her announcement, she wrote,

"And you know in a show about an immortal family that believes in 'Always and Forever,' it's never really the end of the story..."

The comment left many fans scratching their heads, wondering if there was yet another installment to come for the Vampire Diaries franchise. After eight seasons in production, TVD officially called it quits earlier this year. And with The Originals following suit now, there's certainly a huge possibility that there could be another project coming from the series' showrunners.

As details of The Originals finale season begin to leak online, clues point to changes within the series that hint that a third installment may be soon to come. As indicated by TVLine, there will reportedly be an age jump for Hope into adulthood or late teens that could possibly lead to timely spinoff for the character, although neither The CW or Warner Bros. have yet to comment on the matter.

Plec also revealed her thoughts on more stories from the series to TVLine in March of this year. She explained,

“I think there are future shows down the line that can be spawned out of this world and could tell good stories. It’s a hope for the future if nothing else.”

So it definitely sounds like there are some ideas brewing that could lead into a third coming of the vampire franchise. The direction that the speculated new series would take is still totally up in the air. Although Plec told TVLine, “the idea of (Caroline and Alaric’s) school as a safe haven for young supernatural beings certainly has a lot of relevance for Hope.” It's a tidbit that's led fans to believe that Hope may be taking a move from New Orleans to Mystic Falls sometime in the near future.

Don't get your hopes up just yet though, as it remains to be seen if there is any real truth to this rumor. The forthcoming season may uncover some clues of what's to come in the future, so it'd be best to keep your fingers crossed and your eyes wide open for more details from the supernatural drama.
