‘BoJack Horseman’ Could Tackle The Election In Its Signature Sardonic Way
Your favorite Hollywood satire is finally back with new episodes on Netflix. BoJack Horseman Season 4 premieres Sept. 8. But as you settle in for your annual marathon, can you be confident in the show's future? Unfortunately, BoJack Horseman Season 5 isn't a done deal just yet.
Update: BoJack Horseman returns for Season 5 on Sept. 14, the show's official Twitter account announced on June 27.
Earlier update: On Sept. 21, the official BoJack Horseman Twitter account announced that Netflix renewed the show for Season 5.
Earlier: Unfortunately, at press time, there's been no official word from either Netflix or the show's creators on the future of BoJack Horseman — which means fans don't know when (or even if) a new season will be coming our way. And that's quite a scary thought, especially in this brave new world of Netflix cancellations. But before you get too concerned about this existential animated series, take solace in the fact that this lack of confirmation is not uncommon for the show, seeing as the seasons are typically spaced around a year apart. In fact, it's worth pointing out that in past years, the new season renewal announcement has typically come around the time the current season was released. In other words, Netflix might just be making BoJack Horseman Season 5 official any day now.
Besides, although there's been no official news from Netflix, showrunner Raphael Bob-Waksburg has voiced his hope for a fifth season. And if he's on board, we can hope that the rest of the team will be, too. In an interview with Indiewire from the end of 2016, he talked about the effect of the current political climate on film and TV (citing the pre-9/11 American Beauty as an example), and said, "Should we be so lucky to get a Season 5, moving forward the show would almost have to change a little to meet the times." Come on, there's no way Netflix could possibly say no to that, right?
If fans do end up getting a fifth season, you can expect it to premiere anywhere from July to September 2018, going off of past seasons of the show. This year's Season 4 comes out a bit later than usual, in early September; Seasons 2 and 3 came out in mid-July, while the first season came out in mid-August. So, for now, sit tight — enjoy BoJack Horseman Season 4, and cross your fingers that word of the show's fifth and potentially most political season ever will be announced soon.
