As the actor revealed amidst a press tour to promote her recently released film, Mother!, Jennifer Lawrence wants to take an acting break and focus on some much needed time to herself. While the announcement may have come as a surprise to fans, it shouldn't be. Lawrence's acting break is exactly what the hardworking star could use after so many consecutive years in the limelight.
The actor shared the news on Thursday morning's edition of NBC News' Today Show, telling Savannah Guthrie, “I’m taking [a break.] I don’t have anything set for two years.” When Guthrie questioned what Lawrence would do with all of her newfound free time, the actor joked, “start making pots?" However, things quickly became serious as she began to delve into the details surrounding her planned two year hiatus.
She continued as she explained her own personal struggle with trying to maintain a sense of privacy as a celebrity, sharing:
“I was angry and resentful. I thought that I deserved the right to do what I love and to do my job, and then still have privacy. And then after a few years you’re like, that’s not the way it is, it’s just not.”
Fan or not, anyone who follows entertainment news can attest to the fact that the 27-year-old actor's name has been somewhat of a fixture in Hollywood for several years now.
After receiving her first Academy Award nomination following a breakout performance in the 2010 independent drama Winter's Bone, Lawrence went on to become an unstoppable force within the film industry. Once she went on to score her high-profile role in 2011's X-Men: First Class, the actor would rise rapidly to heights of superstardom, and the rest, as they say, is history. In the following years, her stand out performances would cement her as one of the most in demand entertainers of the decade and consecutively land her atop Forbes' list of The World's Highest Paid Actresses two years in a row. Her successes have continued to snowball into movie after movie while she seemingly never managed to take much of a break from concentrating on her craft.
That dedication would lead to a long list of roles, including the insanely popular Hunger Games trilogy, in which she played the movie's lead character, Katniss Everdeen. During that time she also had some pretty major roles in the films Silver Linings Playbook, House at the End of the Street, American Hustle, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Joy. The tally of Lawrence's accomplishments has been never ending since she first made her mark on Hollywood several years ago. And it would otherwise show no signs of stopping, because fans have fans forthcoming projects Red Sparrow and X-Men: Dark Phoenix to look forward to, which are both slated to hit theaters in 2018.
Lawrence's talents would earn the actor many accolades along the way, including an Academy Award and Golden Globe for her performance in Silver Linings playbook, as well as two additional Golden Globes for her roles in American Hustle and Joy. Meanwhile, her role as Everdeen in the Hunger Games saga would land her in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Highest Grossing Heroine of all time. So, yeah, it's safe to say that a break is long overdue for the entertainer, who has been working tirelessly since she was barely 17-years-old.
It's unclear what Lawrence will actually do with all of her extra the time once her break officially begins, but it goes without saying that a bit of rest and relaxation could never hurt.
