Now that the actor has openly shared the shocking news on Facebook, many fans are left wondering exactly why Ben Affleck went rehab in the first place. The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star recently opened up about his secret stint in a treatment facility, revealing that he ultimately decided to get help for the sake of his children.

In his social media post, Affleck explained that he completed a treatment program for alcohol addiction not too long ago and now plans to "live life to the fullest," vowing be the "best father" he can possibly be to his three children, Violet, 11, Seraphina, 8, and Samuel, 5.

The 44-year-old film maker went on to express gratitude to his wife, Jennifer Garner, for her support, saying,

"I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery."

Affleck and Garner separated back in 2015 after 10 years of marriage, but never moved forward with their divorce. Instead, the pair have continued to remain close friends and co-parent their youngsters, while continuing to reside under the same roof together.

Over the past few months, it has been reported that the pair are attempting to work things out, and perhaps, Affleck's recent therapy visit will serve as a step in the right direction for their hopeful reconciliation.

The recent treatment stint isn't the first for the Oscar Award winning screenwriter, in 2001 he completed a 30-day rehabilitation program, also related to alcohol abuse.

I'm certainly glad to see Affleck headed in the right direction on his road to recovery and wish the entire Garner-Affleck family the best.
