'This Is Us' Will Have A Major Sly Stallone Cameo
This Is Us will be making its way back to NBC — and our hearts — in September, and Sylvester Stallone shared photos from the This Is Us set from his time as a guest starring show. And who Sylvester Stallone plays on This Is Us won't be too hard to guess. According to Entertainment Weekly, This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman explained during the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour that Stallone is set to make a guest appearance as himself. He'll be playing Kevin's (Justin Hartley) co-star in a film-within-the-TV-show directed by Ron Howard, who'll also make an appearance as himself.
The legendary actor took to Instagram to share a photo of himself and Hartley all smiles and standing side by side. "On the THIS IS US set with Justin Hartley, this is a fantastic show and he is great to work with!" he wrote in the photo's caption. Stallone later posted two more photos, one with Chrissy Metz taking a playfully jab at his face, and another with himself and Milo Ventimiglia (sans facial hair) posing next to a motorcycle.
Ventimiglia and Stallone co-starred together in the 2006 movie Rocky Balboa, where they played father and son in the sixth film of the popular big screen series.
Ventimiglia recently appeared on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he explained to the late night TV host how he was able to tap the action movie star to appear on This Is Us. He said,
“When I pitched it to Sly, I said, ‘Listen, my son … You are his movie idol, but you gotta wonder where he gets it from. He gets it from dad.’ And so his involvement was a very big part of my character’s storyline, of Jack’s storyline, which meant a lot to me because Sly is one of my idols and I got to work with him.”
Even though Ventimiglia's connection to the actor may have helped This Is Us land Stallone in a cameo, his character Jack isn't likely to share scenes with him. Fogelman stated that the Rocky actor will be giving Kevin a few words of advice about his current situation, and is supposed to act as a father figure to him. And as fans know, Jack is Kevin's (deceased) father who lives on in the series' many flashbacks.
Stallone is only set to appear in one episode of the show, but his message to Kevin could have a big impact in Season 2.
