Many of us run straight to YouTube for all our beauty needs. Want to know about contouring, or braiding, or how to do that new mani you've been seeing everywhere? Simply type in your question and a few well-known makeup artists and beauty gurus will be at your service. But as far as the top beauty vloggers of 2016 goes, you might be surprised to learn that some of the biggest names have fallen slightly out of favor.
Take Michelle Phan, for instance. She's been numero uno for a while. The YouTube star had more than 2 billion views in 2015, ranking her beauty channel as one of the most watched out there, according to senior editor Alle Connell of Revelist.com. She was right up there with other famous faces, like the always-adorable Ingrid Nilssen and mega-babe Bethany Mota. Of course these ladies continue to do amazing work, and will always be loved in the beauty world. But it does seem they're no longer at the top of the list.
In her article, Connell pointed to Social Blade for 2016's top ranking artists on YouTube. Taking things like page views into account, the site was able to pinpoint the best and most popular beauty vloggers of the year. Read on for a list of the top five, as ranked on the blog ONTD, and prepare to be amazed.
5. Tati (GlamLifeGuru)
A year ago, Tati wasn't even on the top 50 list, according to Connell. But that she has over 200,000 followers, and her videos routinely receive over one million views, it's easy to see why she makes the list. Check out her channel for product reviews, "eyeliner fails," and shopping hauls.
4. Promise Phan
Promise Phan only has 79 videos, and yet each one is more addicting than the last. Watch her adorable sisters do her makeup, and be sure to subscribe for false eye lash tutorials, contouring tricks, and some bizarre makeup illusions. (She's so talented!)
3. Bunny (grav3yardgirl)
With her quirky personality and funny videos, Bunny has managed to snag herself nearly eight million subscribers. Her channel has a lot going on, but certainly includes some super-helpful makeup tips and product reviews. While not number one in the ranking, she tops the list with 1,209,157,588 page views, according to ONTD. Pretty impressive.
2. NikkieTutorials
This hair and makeup artist has over six million subscribers, so clearly she's doing something right. Check out her channel for some stunning tips, including some shockingly detailed Halloween makeup.
1. Jeffree Star
Jeffree Star has been a big name in beauty for a while, but his recent spat with Kat Von D definitely brought him even further into the spotlight. Couple that with his immense talent, and it makes perfect sense why this artist is number one.
It may be a surprising list, but definitely one full of artists worth checking out. Will any of them be your new go-to gurus in 2017?
