The Gilmore Girls revival may have come and gone in 2016, but that doesn't mean the series will be forgotten entirely. Fans of the series will likely get a kick out of Miss Universe contestant Maxine Medina, who is Miss Philippines 2016, because of her unique name. GG lovers will remember, of course, Lorelai's Season 1 love interest (and Rory's teacher), Max Medina.
Now, it's just a coincidence that the two people have similar names, and there's no indication that Maxine is a fan of the series or even knows that her name is so close to the fictional character's. Still, it's a fun factoid that GG fans everywhere will enjoy if they tune in for Sunday's Miss Universe broadcast and catch Maxine's name on the screen.
For her part, she's a pretty cool lady. According to her Miss Universe profile, Maxine is a professional model whose platform is dedicated to helping children who have cancer. She also has "supported "Operation: Smile" in Sta. Ana Hospital, taught street children organized by Gawad Kalinga, and participated in relief operations to typhoon victims within the Philippines." When she's not spending time volunteering, Maxine models and is also a "residential condominiums interior designer."
And, I bet she would enjoy the series if she ever gets a chance to see it — especially since she shares a name with one of the kindest, smartest characters to ever grace the screen.
