On Monday, June 5, the "Oscars of Fashion," otherwise known as the 2017 CFDA Fashion Awards, will take place at the Manhattan Center's Hammerstein Ballroom in partnership with Swarovski. There, fashion industry innovators, disruptors, veterans, and game-changers will gather to discover the winners in each category. Designer Diane von Furstenberg, chairwoman of the CFDA, made the announcement of this year's nominees on March 23 at Rascale Studios during a reception.
This year, the CFDA decided to combine the Swarovski Awards for accessories, both men's and women's, into a single award. Another new award for the CFDA Awards is the Swarovski Award for Positive Change. This award goes towards an individual in the fashion industry who had made a positive impact on communities in America as well as has improved the welfare of others. The first designer to receive this award will be Kenneth Cole, according to WWD.
Along with the major designers receiving their awards on Monday, the late Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Francesca Sozzani will receive the Fashion Icon Award, celebrating her accomplishments and groundbreaking actions as a fashion editor.
