The Rihanna Puma Fenty Creeper is one of the most popular sneakers of the past few years, with instant sellouts of the classic, suede sneaker with a platform sole leading desperate fashionistas to seek out the shoes on third party sites. Well, get those credit cards ready. The Rihanna x Puma Ankle Strap Creeper is on the way, and it has several new and sartorially satisfying qualities.
As its name suggests, it's a sneaker with an ankle strap that has the Puma logo stamped on it. The ankle strap creeper is constructed of leather and features the stacked, cleated heel.
This latest and greatest version of the beloved shoe arrives on Thursday, Sept. 28. Some further intel: You can expect the new creepers with the big, bold strap to drop at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT, since that's when most Puma drops take place. #ByeMoney.
In the past, Rihanna and Puma have swapped out the original suede material for leather and played with multiple colorways, from black to white to pink to green to orange camo.
The creative director and the brand have also tinkered with the creeper silhouette, changing things up while remaining loyal to the spirit and style of the original. Puma also recently introduced the aforementioned and much buzzed-about cleated creeper, which has an additional stacked layer in the heel and resembles a baseball player's shoe.
However, the ankle strap elevates the creeper from just another cool AF sneaker to a high fashion shoe that can be worn with a denim mini, a pencil skirt, or simple leggings.
The shoe looks like it has a velcro component in the teaser pic posted on both Rihanna's Instagram and the brand's official account.
IMO, the key is keeping the thick strap visible. You could also be totally fashion forward and wrap this ankle strap around the outside of a pair of skinny jeans. Something tells me that is how Rihanna would do it, just to be unexpected and trendsetting. Because duh.
Bustle reached out to Puma reps for further intel, such as the pricing, whether or not this will be a one-and-done, limited edition drop, as well other core details.
The strap in the ankle strap creeper looks like more like a cuff, which makes it even more of an original. Skinny straps are so "been there, done that." These kicks are part of the Fenty University range, which has an obvious collegiate theme, and they will be available via the Puma site and wherever Puma products are sold.
Eagle-eyed creeper lovers will remember that Rihanna and co. teased this version earlier this year. At the time, a press release received by Bustle nodded to "new evolutions of the infamous Puma creeper were reimagined with stacked soles and ankle straps."
A bigger, taller sole and an additional, edgy detail? I was all in then, and I am all in now. Something tells me that fellow creeper obsessives will share my excitement over this drop.
The creeper has also seen in a soft, white leather iteration, which was a detail that took the footwear to the next level. The ankle strap will do the same. With each new generation of creepers, the refreshed details totally transform the shoes and ultimately make them feel brand new.
The shiny, cracked leather version also helped upscale the shoe and took them beyond athleisure.
This newest creeper isn't the first time that Rihanna and her design team have added ankle details to the silhouette. This summer, the brand dropped a creeper sandal, which featured a bow on the toe, ankle wrap straps, and came in three soft, seasonal colors.
