When texting first became popular, was almost impossible to convey feeling through mere words — that's why we started using smileys like ":)" and ":(", of course. We all know the feeling of when the tone of what you're trying to say is completely misunderstood, because text can be interpreted in a myriad of different ways depending on who's reading it. However, when emojis were created, all of that changed. All of a sudden, what you meant could be displayed through the careful curation of symbols and faces. A whole new world of digital communication opened up. Now, we take emojis for granted while constantly hoping for new ones to show up — and I'm happy to say that Jun. 21 is one of those lucky days, because Unicode has released a slew of new emojis that are now available to platforms like Apple, Android, Twitter, Google, and so on to purchase.

From new skin and color options to brand new characters, these emojis might finally encompass every action you take and feeling you have. Promoting a more inclusive and positive environment, this round of emojis embraces differences more than those of the past. When our keyboards represent us all and our varying lifestyles, it brings us one step closer to a world that mirrors that. Download the update on your phone now and start sending them to all your friends. Just prepare to be distracted for a while as you test them all out.

In celebration, I've put together a list of the coolest new emojis included in the new release — you can also check out the rest here.
