These Chirrut Quotes From 'Rogue One' Are Too Good

by Olivia Truffaut-Wong

If you didn't walk away from Rogue One with a healthy obsession with Chirrut Îmwe, then you clearly weren't paying attention. The warrior and sworn protector of the Jedi temple in Jedha is one of the breakout characters from the new anthology Star Wars film. And, with his badass fighting skills, funny quips, and unfailing loyalty to the Force, it's not hard to see why. In many ways, Chirrut brought the Force to Rogue One, and these seven Chirrut quotes from Rogue One prove that he's the best.

Chirrut's defining trait in Rogue One is his belief in the Force. In fact, he is described as "deeply spiritual" on the official Star Wars website. Out of all the Rebels, Chirrut is the one with the closest, most conscious connection to the Force. Moreover, his fight scenes are arguably the best in the entire film. Whether he's using a crossbow/blaster or his trusty staff, Chirrut's smooth skills on the battlefield, courtesy of actor Donnie Yen, are unparalleled. And Chirrut's quick, simple, and witty dialogue is often a perfect match for his matter-of-fact awesomeness. His fighting and the strength of his convictions make him great, and these seven Chirrut quotes from Rogue One are too good.

1. "Are you kidding me? I'm blind."

Chirrut's blindness doesn't stop Rebel extremists from putting a bag over his head before taking him to see Saw Gerrera, and Chirrut's reaction is priceless, proving early on that Chirrut is perhaps one of the most well-adjusted fighters the Rebels have.

2. "The Force is with me, and I fear nothing."

Chirrut is, from his very first scene, established as having unwavering faith in the Force, which makes him pretty legendary in the eyes of fans. Not since Yoda have we seen a character so devoted to the ideas of the Force. It also helps that whenever Chirrut starts talking about the Force being with him, you know he's about to go off on some stormtroopers.

3. "I don't need luck, I have you."

Chirrut says this to Baze when he goes to check on Jyn in the middle of a storm on Imperial territory. It's a line that not only helps solidify his bond with Baze, but also gets a laugh from the audience in what is otherwise a very tense sequence. Never change, Chirrut, never change.

4. "There is more than one prison. I think you carry yours wherever you go."

Chirrut has the uncanny ability to pin people down after talking to them for about five seconds. In this line, addressed to Cassian, he sees that the Rebel Captain is plagued by guilt and trapped in the Rebel mindset.

5. "She wants to fight."

When Chirrut reads Jyn's determination before the Battle of Scarif, he's not just talking for her, he's speaking for himself. She wants to fight, and so do we.

6. "I am one with the Force. The Force is with me."

Chirrut's mantra — "I am one with the Force. The Force is with me" — will probably go down as one of the most iconic phrases in the Star Wars franchise. At the very least, it will be the words most associated with Rogue One. A message of hope and faith and all that is good, this quote is Chirrut Îmwe.

7. "Look for the Force and you will always find me."

Chirrut's heartbreaking goodbye to Baze is just about as beautiful as it gets.

Chirrut, may you live forever in the Force, and in our hearts.
