If you were hoping for some new release to come along and grab you by the wallet, these 20th anniversary Harry Potter covers are just what you've been looking for. U.K. publisher Bloomsbury will release eight new versions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone — better known as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on this side of the Atlantic — this summer.
2017 might look pretty bleak, but it's the perfect year to start rolling out Hogwarts house-themed Harry Potter books. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone first hit U.K. bookstores on June 26, 1997, with Sorcerer's Stone appearing stateside a year later. Sep. 1, 2017 is 19 years later: the day that Harry and Ginny send Albus Severus off to Hogwarts, launching the events of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Bloomsbury will put out the 20th anniversary Harry Potter covers below in June 2017.
If you feel as if Hogwarts house-themed Harry Potter book covers sound awfully familiar, you're probably thinking of the cover designs from Juniper Books, which sells boxed sets to proud Gryffindors, Ravenclaws, Hufflepuffs, and Slytherins for $275. Juniper Books now includes a Hogwarts house-themed version of Cursed Child as well.
Bloomsbury tapped Greenling author and illustrator Levi Pinfold to design the new editions. In addition to bearing the crest of each Hogwarts house, the 20th anniversary Harry Potter books have their page edges dyed in their corresponding house colors. They're seriously beautiful, and they come chock-full of extra Harry Potter illustrations and content.
Although nothing official has been announced yet, U.S. Potterheads might have new covers headed their way next year. After all, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and the U.K. version of Chamber of Secrets will have their own 20th anniversaries in 2018, as will the Battle of freakin' Hogwarts. If you can't wait another year, though, Amazon U.K. will ship your Hogwarts house-themed Harry Potter books stateside for an extra $9.
