Awards season allows entertainment lovers the chance to look back on the great things that occurred in the past year, something that's desperately needed as 2017 wraps up. With the 2018 Golden Globe nominations, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association made it clear which movies and TV shows from 2017 are worth celebrating, from the likes of Call Me by Your Name to The Handmaid's Tale. On Dec. 11, Alfre Woodard, Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Bell, and Sharon Stone got up early to announce the nominations for the 75th Golden Globe Awards and now that the nominees have been unveiled, it's time to start rooting for your favorites.
The Golden Globes is the first awards show of the new year and it sets the tone for the rest of the awards season. There's no denying that 2017 has been a rough year for Hollywood (especially women in Hollywood) since the allegations against many of the industry's top people unveiled how rampant sexual assault can be in the entertainment world and beyond. As host of the 2018 Golden Globes, Seth Meyers is tasked with reminding viewers of all the good that comes out of television and movies — especially now that people in positions of power are finally being called out. Hopefully changes are made in Hollywood that help make more room for women, people of color, and LGBTQ people to feel safe contributing their creative works to this industry in the years ahead. And when the Golden Globes airs on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, the nominees that represent the most-esteemed television series and movies of 2018 will hopefully help usher in a new year in Hollywood.
