These 9 Sprays Add Instant Volume To Limp Hair
If you're like me, first-day hair is full bouncy and full, second-day hair is slightly deflated and third-day hair is in need of a boost. For me, that's where dry powder sprays come in — and I'm always surprised by the number of people who aren't already fans of this miracle product.
Half the world seems to be in love with dry shampoo, and I was one of the products' biggest fans for years. But I've recently come back around to loving the clean feeling of freshly washed hair, and I'm washing my hair more often than I have in a few years (I'm talking every two to three days instead of once a week — let's not get crazy here). One of the side effects of washing my hair more often is that I'm less likely to reach for a bottle of dry shampoo. By day two or three, my hair isn't actually all that greasy. But it is in need of a little volume and texture boost, and that's where dry powder spray comes in.
The product is designed to add volume and texture to your hair, but it doesn't absorb oil or clean like dry shampoo. "Dry shampoos have a higher amount of powder and starch to absorb oils. Dry finishing sprays add wax to give the hair shine and pieceyness," Dove celebrity stylist Mark Townsend told Bustle last fall.
Sounds like the perfect product, right? Here are nine of my favorites.
1. Living Proof
Living Proof Dry Volume Blast, $27, Amazon
This Living Proof spray is relatively new to the market, but it's already becoming one of my favorite powder sprays. You shake it well, spray your styled hair from root to tip and tousle it — boom, instant volume.
2. Amika
Amika Un.Done Texture Spray, $24, Amazon
This product from Amika uses sea buckthorn berry to add volume and texture to limp hair.
3. Blowpro
blowpro textstyle Dry Texture Spray, $20, Amazon
This spray does double duty by holding your styled hair in place and eliminating oil and grease in your hair. And the best part? It's currently on sale.
4. Big Sexy Hair
Big Sexy Hair Volumizing and Texturizing Powder, $8, Amazon
Although this product isn't technically a spray, it's worth a mention in my book because it's the perfect size to use while you're traveling. The fact that it's not liquid means it'll clear airport security, and you'll have voluminous hair for your entire vacation.
5. Drybar
Drybar Triple Sec 3-in-1 Texturizer, $37, Amazon
This Drybar spray is one of the first dry powder sprays I fell in love with — it cuts grease, adds texture and makes your hair look like you've had a fresh blowout (even if you haven't washed it in days).
6. Oribe
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, $44, Amazon
Oribe has the OG dry texturizing spray, and I can vouch that it lives up to the hype. I sprayed every last drop out of my trial size sample, and I'm saving my pennies to buy the full bottle of this slightly pricey option. Trust me — once you smell it, you'll want to do the same.
7. Kerastase
Kerastase V.I.P. Volume, $33, Amazon
This Kerastase option is half hairspray, half texture spray. It'll help your style hold and add some much-needed volume.
8. Bumble and Bumble
Bumble and Bumble Thickening Dryspun Finish, $30, Amazon
This spray from Bumble and Bumble promises to provide "airy texture." Sounds perfect to me.
9. Powder Grip
Redken Powder Grip Mattifying Hair Powder, $15, Amazon
Another powder, but this one will add great volume at your roots. If you struggle with flat roots, this is for you.
