Starbucks' New Frappuccinos Are Summer In A Cup
Move over, Unicorn Frappuccino — there are a few new blended beverages in town that are just begging for their five minutes of social media fame. Meet the Starbucks Berry Prickly Pear Frappuccino and the Mango Pineapple Frappuccino, the latest Insta-worthy Starbucks novelty drinks that are keeping the coffee chain’s buzz-worthy, colorful drink streak going strong. And if they taste half as good as they look, Starbucks loyalists (and their followers) are in for a treat.
The new summery drinks feature frothy creme and fruity swirls in pink and yellow hues — a nod to their fruity roots. According to Starbucks, each drink riffs on a fruit and mango crème frappuccino combination. After the drinks debuted in Asia earlier this month and news of their U.S. arrival was leaked on social media earlier this week, fans have been expecting the fruity frappes’ arrival. The company kept the news under wraps in recent weeks, but finally confirmed their addition to the menu Tuesday morning. For tall sizes, the drinks run between $4.45 - $4.75 depending on the location.
So, what are the drinks? The Berry Prickly Pear Frappuccino features a mixture of mango crème frappuccino and strawberry prickly pear fruit puree. According to Starbucks, "The prickly pear (which tastes like tropical melon and berries) pairs nicely with strawberry," and "features subtle notes of hibiscus, passionfruit and lime."
The Mango Pineapple Frappuccino is a bit more straight-forward, pairing the mango crème frappuccino base with a mango pineapple fruit puree. Fans will notice hints of tropical flavors like fresh mango, pineapple, and lime. It's topped with an additional layer of mango and pineapple puree to complete the drink.
Customers can purchase the Berry Prickly Pear and Mango Pineapple Frappes at Starbucks stores across the U.S. and Canada beginning Jun 20. According to the press release, the drinks will be available in stores for a limited time, or "while supplies last." Get 'em while they're cold!
