This Shailene Woodley & Miles Teller News Is Spectacular
Come a little bit closer, Divergent and The Spectacular Now fans, because I have precious news to share with you. On Friday, The Hollywood Reporter announced that a new movie starring Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller may be happening, which would make it the fifth movie that the talented twosome have starred in together. And yes, I'm applauding uncontrollably about that fact right now, thanks for noticing.
The movie is a survival thriller called Adrift, and is based on the true story of a woman who sets off on a sailing trip to Tahiti with her fiancé, only to find themselves stuck in a perilous storm with their boat in ruins. Teller is reportedly currently in negotiations to star in Adrift, but if he is confirmed for the movie, then it would certainly mark Teller and Woodley as Hollywood's newest power acting duo.
In fact, considering that they starred together in three movies from the Divergent series, as well as The Spectacular Now, I'd say that they're definitely well on their way to becoming acting partnership royalty. I'm talking, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, or Julia Roberts and George Clooney. They've totally got that vibe happening, people. And, funnily enough, it's something that Woodley has even acknowledged as a goal in the past.
Speaking to Vanity Fair in 2014, Woodley suggested that she'd like something similar to Roberts and Clooney's relationship, for herself and Teller. She said,
"I look at Miles and, like, I’m sort of Julia Roberts in the same way she is to George. Their relationship I could see being our relationship in 20 years, and that really is special."
Which is so freaking sweet that I can barely function right now. Clearly, the two actors have a lot of respect for each other professionally, but Teller and Woodley's friendship has also been evident for a long time, making such an acting partnership between the two feel powerful.
In fact, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2014, Teller responded to another celebrity comparison made by Woodley in W. In that interview, Woodley suggested that she'd love for the two of them to "be a famous screen couple ... like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet." And his response to that certainly outlines Teller's professional commitment to Woodley, as he said:
"Those are two actors who are very, very good, and I thought it was cool that they did a film together with, like, 20 years in between. With Shailene, I would love to work with her once every couple years. We work very similarly, and I think she’s very talented."
Hell yeah, fella. Considering the fact that it's been a couple of years since Teller and Woodley were filming Allegiant together, the third movie of the Divergent franchise, it sounds as though the actor may be getting his wish if he happens to star in Adrift with Woodley.
And with Teller's recent critically acclaimed roles in movies like Whiplash and Bleed For This, and Woodley's incredible performance in the HBO mini-series Big Little Lies, it seems the two actors are on a steady rise in their careers. So, to potentially combine their powers every couple of years? These two are bound to be unstoppable.
