1AQUARIUS: 'The Truth of Right Now' by Kara Lee Corthron

Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

Personality Traits: Aquarius people are eccentric and energetic intellectuals who love to use their brains. They are strongly drawn to fighting for humanitarian causes and are progressive visionaries and independent thinkers.

YA Pick: The Truth of Right Now by Kara Lee Corthron follows Lily as she returns to her privileged Manhattan high school after a harrowing end to her sophomore year... and it’s not pretty. Enter Dari, the artistic and mysterious transfer student, adept at cutting class. Not that he’d rather be at home with his domineering Trinidadian father. Their attraction ignites immediately, and for the first time in what feels like forever, Lily and Dari find happiness in each other. In twenty-first-century New York City, the fact that Lily is white and Dari is black shouldn’t matter that much, but nothing’s as simple as it seems. When tragedy becomes reality, can friendship survive even if romance cannot? This book is the perfect mix of young love with serious themes of race, class and mental health that will appeal to all Aquarius readers.

She and her best friend, Kate, have one goal: becoming professional ballerinas. And Harper won’t let anything—or anyone—get in the way of The Plan, not even the boy she and Kate are both drawn to. But Harper is related to Robert Falcon Scott, the explorer who died racing to the South Pole. So when Harper’s life takes an unexpected turn, she finagles her way into the icy dark of McMurdo Station . . . in Antarctica. It's extreme, but somehow fitting — apparently she has always been in the dark, dancing on ice this whole time. And no one warned her. Not her family, not her best friend, not even the boy who has somehow found a way into her heart. Harper's story is heartwarming, hilarious and adventurous, ideal for romantic February reading.
