If you've checked the calendar and spend a lot of time thinking about pop culture, then you probably know that May the 4th, aka Star Wars Day. While the force is with so many of us on Thursday, there's one particular fan and Star Wars actor, Riz Ahmed, who's celebrating May the 4th by one-upping all of us. With a single Instagram photo, the actor served us up a world where he can celebrate in a way we'd all like to: by hanging out with Han Solo's bestie Chewbacca and a few of the Wookiee's closest friends. Jealous yet?
Ahmed, who starred in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as Bodhi Rook, is just chillin' in a sea of Wookiees, looking as happy as ever in the photo. He's surrounded by at least 10, with one hanging on his shoulders for the group shot. His caption is sweet and simple: "May the 4th be with you."
While the real Chewbacca still needs to stand up, there are some impressive costumes in Ahmed's midst. Just look at the Wookiee in the right-hand corner who's giving some serious Derek Zoolander vibes with that blue steel. Seriously, I can't wait until this turns into an awesome May the 4th meme that we can share with all your Star Wars loving friends. (Yes, even those who loved Episodes I — III. No judgment here. Well, some judgment.)
While there are many ways to celebrate Star Wars Day, Canada's Globe and Mail reported that the first official celebration of May the 4th was back in 2011 in Toronto. Now, these May the 4th celebrations span the globe with scheduled events in cities all over the world — though some things you can do right from home. Like, say, marathon through every Star Wars movie.
But don't get too excited that Ahmed is really hanging out at a Star Wars event right now. He could very well do so later, but this Instagram photo is an old one. Look close, and you'll recognize that man sitting at the table behind Ahmed surrounded by a bunch of Wookiees: Peter Mayhew, the real Chewbacca. Mayhew posted a similar photo back on April 15, which just so happened to be the 2017 Star Wars Weekend in Disney World, where stars of the franchise head to Orlando to sign autographs for fans. This year, both Mayhew and Ahmed came out to celebrate Star Wars' 40th anniversary.
Being that it is a Thursday, it's fitting that Ahmed would throw back to a convention a reasonably long time ago in a galaxy — or just a city — far, far away. So whether you will be celebrating today with Wookiees or without, the same sentiment is true: May the Fourth be with you, always.
