A Look Back At Rihanna's Grammys Style Evolution
Aside from her, y'know, insane talent and industry savvy, Rihanna's become known for her endless style evolution. And as a fixture in the music world, it's only fitting that her chic journey has been documented on music's biggest night for the past decade. From her "Pon de Replay" days to the "Anti" era, Rihanna's Grammys red carpet looks show her go from island queen to bona fide fashion icon, with many trendy moments along the way.
Since her first appearance in 2007, Rihanna's hit the red carpet seven times, and she's made a major statement nearly every year. She canceled her Grammys performance and appearance in 2016 reportedly due to bronchitis, but she's set to appear again this year—and with eight Grammy award nominations in 2017, she could potentially win big, too.
If there's one thing we know for sure, though, it's that if she walks the carpet, she'll bring her A-game. Never one to shy away from a statement, Rihanna's look will be without a doubt unpredictable, but fabulous.
In honor of 10 years of RiRi Grammy awards style, let's take a journey back through all seven of her Grammys red carpet looks—because there's definitely no way to forecast what she'll wear this year.
2007
For Rihanna's Grammys red carpet debut, she wore a pleated backless Roberto Cavalli gown. Chunky arm candy completed the look.
2008
I call this Zac Posen dress "prom chic," and in the nicest way possible. Because if anyone can pull it off, it's Rihanna. Her edgy pixie cut balanced out the girly silhouette.
2010
Rihanna went from Barbados pop star to full-on badass beauty in this statement-making Elie Saab gown and coifed hairstyle in 2010.
2011
Ah, the OG naked dress of the 2010s. This daring sheer dress by Jean Paul Gaultier turned heads along with one of my favorite Rihanna hair eras, the fiery red lob.
2012
2012 marked Rihanna's most minimal Grammys red carpet look. This backless Armani dress was ultra-sexy in an understated way, and tousled blonde locks and gold accessories made the ensemble look effortlessly sleek.
2013
In one of my favorite Grammys fashion moments ev-er, Rihanna rocked this elegant, feminine Azzedine Alaïa gown. An all-red-everything ensemble takes confidence on a red carpet, and Rihanna went all in with lips and nails, too. Oh, and loving the hair throwback to her "A Girl Like Me" days.
2015
If there's anyone who can top Rihanna's last Grammys statement, it's, well, Rihanna this year. But she has her work cut out for her—this ruffled Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown is one of the boldest Grammy's looks we've seen in a while.
She looked every bit the pretty pink cupcake in the best way, and she kept her makeup and hair delicate and understated to let the dress shine. Even still, Rihanna wears this dress, it doesn't wear her, which is hard to do with a look this grand.
Here's to hoping Rihanna's 2017 Grammys red carpet look is just as exciting as her past appearances—but who are we kidding. Of course it will be.
