If there's one thing on the minds of every single Star Wars fan, it's what the hell Luke Skywalker is going to say to Rey once events pick back up in Episode 8. And at Star Wars Celebration 2017, Daisy Ridley spoke a little bit about what happens between Luke & Rey in The Last Jedi. Even Ridley is excited for it.
"I think what we're all excited for: Luke's first words," she said when host Josh Gad asked her what she's most excited for. And apparently, those first words aren't going to necessarily be the most comfortable.
"We go deeper into Rey’s story ... Rey has a certain expectation of what she might get from Luke and what that might entail," she said of her character's journey. "It’s difficult when you meet your heroes because it might not be what you expect.”
Things are gonna get weird. Or awkward. Or something.
But the plot thickens when the trailer comes into the mix. Luke appears to be training Rey, but he's also got something of a dark-er side: He says he wants the Jedi to end. Well, considering that Rey has idolized the legends that are the Jedi for her whole life, that might be a bit jarring and oh, I don't know, totally devastating.
What's more is that in the brand new poster, both Kylo Ren and Luke are bathed in that classic dark side color: blood red. Only Rey stands between them. Could it be that Rey's meeting with Luke will take a much darker turn than expected?
It seems pretty likely, but as a fan, I welcome the strange and uncomfortable change. After all, breaking the mold is what Star Wars films are for.
