I’ve seen a lot of bad ideas in my day — I watch a lot of reality television — but man, did Rachel Lindsay just make a bad one. Rachel dumped Peter on The Bachelorette! Girl, have you seen that man? Have you seen how he interacts with children and how your family loved him and the fact that small woodland creatures and birds just seem to follow him places when he walks by? But alas, Rachel has seemingly chosen Bryan Abasolo to be her intended, and Peter just got kicked to the curb. Sigh.
I can’t say that I didn’t see this coming — there is always one contestant per season of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette that doesn’t know if she or he, respectively, can commit to getting engaged after only knowing someone for, like, six weeks. I get that. I would feel the same way. It doesn’t mean that that person wants the relationship to end, but he/she would rather really get to know the Bachelor/ette before committing. Again, this makes sense.
Unfortunately, Peter was that guy, and even though Rachel and Peter obviously cared for each other, I think Rachel felt more secure with Bryan and his level of commitment than with Peter. Just before Rachel was to make her big choice, she and Peter were still at a crossroads — to get engaged? Or not to get engaged? They both wanted the same thing, it seemed, but not at the same time. Thus, Rachel left Peter hanging on a breezy day in Spain, and he was, in a word, devastated. As were fans.
People Thought Rachel Was Blinded By A Ring
She made it clear she wanted a proposal.
People Were Furious That She Put Peter Through That
No one deserves to be heartbroken, TBH.
People Were Strongly #TeamPeter
#TeamPeter trended on Twitter, while a misspelling of Bryan's name, "Brian" trended. Ouch.
People Were Upset That Bryan Won After All That
By default?
People Were Just Plain Upset
It’s not a surprise if you’re on Twitter that most seemed to prefer Peter over Bryan, but the heart wants what the heart wants, and Rachel’s heart wanted a chiropractor from Miami. Happens every day, you know? Peter may be feeling sad now (or at least he was when he was dumped on national television in a beautiful locale), but I hope he’s feeling better now. He’ll love again, and I’d like to say that I have plenty of lovely friends that Peter could date (call me).
