Missandei & Grey Worm Took A Stand For Women On 'Game Of Thrones'

Game of Thrones isn't often considered feminist when it comes to its sex scenes. The show has become infamous for either scenes of gratuitous nudity and/or rape, but every now and then there is a progressive moment. Sunday, Missandei and Grey Worm had sex on Game of Thrones. Partially because Grey Worm is a eunuch, and their choices are limited, he went down on her — and that isn't the first time that Game of Thrones has shown female oral sex on screen.

It shouldn't be difficult to believe that there is an oral sex gender gap on television, considering that it also exists in real life. That's just one of the many drawbacks of living in a patriarchal society. The MPAA is more likely to give a higher rating like R or NC-17 and deem something more risqué when a woman is shown having an orgasm at all, and that's not OK. Female pleasure deserves a place on screen and in real life. So it's awesome that a show as mainstream as Game of Thrones has scenes like this. I wish there were way more, the ladies of Westeros deserve it, but I'm still going to toss positive feedback its way when I can.

The most memorable example prior to this on the HBO series was between Ygritte and Jon Snow. The wildling woman was convinced that he had been taught how to go down on her in some fancy town, but Ned Stark's bastard insisted that he just "wanted to kiss her down there" and had no idea what he was doing. That's a fantasy if I ever heard one, way more so than Daenerys' dragons.

I also suspect that oral sex is how Podrick won over all of those women from Littlefinger's brothel in King's Landing, though it was never said outright. The guys (Bronn, mostly) joke that Pod has a magic and/or giant penis... but I'm willing to bet that his tongue was involved somehow. Of course most of the men of GoT couldn't possibly guess that the women's pleasure may not have had anything to do with Podrick's penis *rolls eyes*. As for Missandei and Grey Worm, it's also kind of awesome to show on screen that there's more than one way to consummate a relationship and be intimate. It's pretty regressive and heteronormative to think otherwise.

There is however the unfortunate fact that most of Westeros' decent lovers end up dead. Robb Stark, Oberyn Martell, and even Jon Snow kicked the bucket (though he was brought back of course). Is Grey Worm doomed after this? This sweet moment may their last.

Still, I think prioritizing female orgasms may be the true lesson of Game of Thrones. It's clear that sisters are doing it for themselves these days in the Seven Kingdoms. They deserve to be sexually liberated as well. Who knows, Jon Snow might bring a new meaning to "bend the knee" when he arrives in Dragonstone and meets Danerys, if you know what I mean.
