La Mer is calling its Sheer Pressed Powder the "essential finishing touch" to its Skincolor collection, which launched in Fall 2016. It comes in four different shades — translucent, light, medium, and medium deep — and is made with light-reflecting pigments that create a healthy matte finish after application. At a launch event in Beverly Hills, celebrity makeup artists and La Mer ambassadors, Mary Phillips (whose clients include Kim Kardashian and Chrissy Teigen) and Patrick Ta (who does Emily Ratajowski and Gigi Hadid's makeup), demonstrated their favorite ways to use the new pressed powder on their clients and themselves. Here are their tips.
Mary Phillips
“I like to set everything, neck included, with powder, and then throughout the day, I like to re-powder the T-zone and let the natural highlight gleam through," Phillips shared.
Phillips suggests applying the powder in feather-like upward strokes or buffing circular motions. "The application doesn’t have to involve a whole lot of intensity. Think ballerina, not tap dancer," Philips said.
Patrick Ta
"A bit of The Pressed Powder in Translucent under the eyes really brightens that area and sets concealer," said Patrick Ta.
Another way to achieve a dewy, but not oily glow? In the video below, Ta walks us through how he preps his client's skin before applying foundation and The Sheer Pressed Powder.
First, Ta uses The Renewal Oil and The Treatment Lotion (his holy grail product) to moisturize and protect the skin. Once the skin care part is done and all absorbed, Ta applies The Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation and finishes by applying The Sheer Pressed Powder with a large fluffy powder brush.
