Kat Von D Is Changing Her Ultra-Popular Foundation & It’s Actually A Good Thing

by Amy Sciarretto

Kat Von D Beauty lovers got a dose of good news when brand founder, namesake, and celeb tattoo artist Kat Von D revealed new product launches on deck for 2018 in an online Sephora Q&A. In the tell-all session, Kat Von D told fans her beauty business will be changing its beloved Lock-it Tattoo Full Coverage Foundation. But nobody panic. It doesn't appear to be a replacement of the ultra-popular formula, but rather an additional, lighter version for users seeking a more breathable alternative to the original.

In the Sephora chat, Kat shared that a dewier version of Lock-it, which enjoyed a packaging refresh last year, is coming soon. The original is revered for it's full-coverage properties, and the fact that it comes in many inclusive shades. But it is heavy duty. So if it's a thinner version you seek, it appears you are going to be getting it.

Kat Von D Beauty has earned a cult-like, disciple-esque devotion among its fans due to the high quality products, which boast a consistently edgy aesthetic. So it's understandable why fans might have been alarmed upon hearing this news. It's truly a case of "If it ain't broke..."

Bustle reached out to KVD Beauty reps to inquire about further details on the lighter version, such as formulation, release date, and pricing.

The online Sephora community chat revealed intel about other Kat Von D 2018 launches. There will be an additional Metal Matte Palette, and the return of Haze and Haze II Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks, which are a mega matte violet and gray, respectively.

A new lipstick vault is also on the way for 2018, too. Along with the aforementioned Lock-it Foundation, KVD's Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks are a cult favorite, thanks to the epic pigmentation, wide array of colors, and the non-drying formula.

As if there wasn't enough KVDB good news, a blush collection will arrive in the spring so you can enjoy a pretty flush on those cheeks when you smile.

Earlier this year, Von D revealed in a teaser Insta post that she was testing a new matter version of her also-worshipped Tattoo Eyeliner. Her wording made it sound like she was testing prototypes for an additional version, not a replacement. That's a testament to the brand's desire to innovate and evolve, but keep the hero products you know and love.

Overall, it obviously going to be a good year for Kat Von D Beauty, with plenty of exciting launches on the docket for 2018.
