Jenny Slate Takes This 'Landline' Pool Party To The Next Level

by Nina Bradley

Need a break from the sweltering summer sun? Check out Jenny Slate, who takes a pool party to the next level, in this exclusive Landline clip. Fresh off her role in this summer's box office hit, Despicable Me 3, Slate seamlessly dives right into her next big screen role, which is slated to be released on July 21.

The film, which is set in 1995, features Slate's character, Dana Jacobs, loudly frolicking in a public pool along with her younger sister, Ali Jacobs, portrayed by Hollywood newcomer, Abby Quinn. At first it's hard to pinpoint exactly what has Dana, the typically more conservative sister, in hysterics as the clip opens to her exuberant laughter while she clowns around in a public pool alongside the teenaged and less-restricted, Ali. However, it is quickly revealed that intoxication serves as the key factor in the giggle-fest.

As Dana roaringly paddles about, the expressions on the faces of fellow swimmers are nothing short of priceless when they appear to be seemingly mortified by the boisterous spectacle. Playtime ultimately ends for the sibs when the sisters get into a full-on splash fight and Dana runs out of the pool to avoid Ali's aqua attack.

It appears that Dana and Ali bond over suspicions that their father, Alan Jacobs (John Turturro) is having an affair behind their mother Pat Jacobs' (Edie Falco) back, as indicated by Just Jared. The pool shindig seemingly serves as a form of release for the siblings during their journey to find out the truth about their father's transgressions. Amid their quest, Dana and Ali uncover a myriad of family secrets while trying to shield their mother from the the details of the investigation on their father.

The forthcoming flick, asVariety reveals, was picked up by Amazon Studios after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2017. With Jenny Slate lending her talent to this project, Landline may make a splash when it hits theaters later this month.
