Only True Fans Will Recognize This Beyoncé Song

The Everything, Everything trailer arrived online earlier this week, granting fans their first look at the big-screen imagining of Nicola Yoon's young adult novel of the same name. The clip's backing song features none other than Queen Bey's soul-scorching vocals as it sets up the film's epic love story, but some may be wondering, is there a new Beyoncé song in the Everything, Everything trailer?

Sorry to disappoint, but no, there's not. The track "Runnin' (Lose It All)" is actually a collaboration with English singer Arrow Benjamin and DJ-producer Naughty Boy from 2015. But even though it's a couple years old, it's easy to see why film producers picked it. It's soaring, gorgeous, and aptly themed — the film is about a girl wanting to break free, and "Runnin' (Lose It All)" fits that to a T. The movie stars Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games) as Maddy Whittier, an ailing 18-year-old who has been confined to the inside of her house for most of her life. Due to an immunodeficiency disease, everything beyond her disinfected home poses a lethal threat.

One day, a new boy, Olly Bright (Jurassic World's Nick Robinson), moves in next door and they begin a budding romance from afar. Eventually, the relationship causes Maddy to venture outside, her health be damned.

Coincidentally (or maybe intentionally), the trailer has similar imagery to the music video for "Runnin' (Lose It All)."

The thing Maddy yearns to see most in the outside world is the ocean, and the song's visuals feature various people floating freely beneath the sea. Paired with lyrics like, "These four lonely walls have changed the way I feel" and "Runnin', runnin', runnin, 'Ain't runnin' from myself no more, I'm ready to face it all," it's hard to imagine a more perfectly matched soundtrack. And hey, I'll take any Beyoncé — old or new.
