We Might Be Getting A 'Pitch Perfect 4'
If you love singing, Rebel Wilson, and girls who are themselves no matter what, then you've probably been hungry for more details about the upcoming installment of your favorite aca-film. As such, the Pitch Perfect 3 poster is everything you need to get your Friday started in style — especially since one comment suggests Rebel Wilson could be doing Pitch Perfect 4.
It's hard to believe that it's only been five years since the franchise first began, because it feels like Fat Amy, Beca and Barden University has been part of our cultural dialogue a lot longer than half a decade. How did women ever turn down a creep trying to smooch them prior to Amy replying to "I have a feeling we should kiss, is that a good feeling?" with “well... sometimes I have a feeling I could do crystal meth, but then I think, hmm, better not.” Also, how did we live prior to mermaid dancing? And how did we ever come up with passwords that didn't feature an acted-out fart noise?
All of this is why it felt so tragic that this could be the final Pitch Perfect movie. Well, I say "felt" — note the tense there. Because Friday wasn't simply exciting because of the new movie poster, but because a fan asked exactly the right question.
First of all, the poster is amazing. We've got the play on "Last call, b*tches," we've got the Bellas looking uncharacteristically tough suggesting that the stakes are higher than ever, and we've got the fact that the group, while still as diverse as ever in personalities, appear to be adhering to an all-black dress code, suggesting they're about to go perform.
Second of all, let's get back to this whole "last installment" business. We were led to believe that this would be the final chapter in the story by what Pitch Perfect screenwriter Kay Cannon told E! Online about the third movie in April:
"I think that people will cry. I think it's the end of the Bellas as we know them. If there's a Pitch Perfect 4, it will be a new crop... I think they just know. I had the feeling when I visited set, it was like they were full of tears and like, 'How much longer can we be singing a cappella?'"
But this now appears to be contradicted by Wilson. Underneath her poster tweet, the following exchange happened:
Does this mean we're getting a Pitch Perfect 4 with Rebel Wilson in it? On one hand, this is a very vague comment. The fan is asking if she's looking forward to the fourth film and she says she is — but note the verb "continuing." This isn't about her looking forward to watching or witnessing a fourth film, but being an active part of it. This would make sense, since Wilson also hinted the fun wasn't over until she said it was in April, when, prior to the screenwriter's comments, she posted a photo of herself on set on Instagram with the caption "This is not the end. Bellas for life x"
Obviously, it's far too early to draw any conclusions about whether this means the entirety of the original cast will be returning for the fourth movie or just Wilson or nobody at all. But keep your eyes peeled for more announcements. After this tweet, fans may start pressing the Australian for more information, and it looks like she's in the mood to spill.
