Hannah Would Return For A '13 Reasons Why' Season 2

If you're still getting totally hyped over the possibility of 13 Reasons Why returning for Season 2, then the potential for what a second season could feature is sure to send your obsession into overdrive. And, if an interview with the show's writer Brian Yorkey is anything to go by, then it sounds as though Hannah Baker will return to 13 Reasons Why, if and when season 2 of the show officially goes ahead.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the writer provided some insight into why Hannah will be in season 2 of 13 Reasons Why, though, sadly, he shares no details into how exactly she could appear. Yorkey said:

One of the things that is a fundamental element of our show is the weaving of past and the present, Hannah's story is still very much not finished. She's an integral part of whatever the next chapter of the story is, and she's very much still at the center of it.

Katherine Langford, the actor who portrayed Hannah, also added to those sentiments. "There's definitely more story to tell. It would be cool to continue the dialogue of this story," she said. "There are so many cliffhangers at the end of the season."

Which is true. The unresolved cliffhangers of 13 Reasons Why most definitely leave the door open for the story to be further explored — and, for that matter, for other important teenage issues to be discussed too. However, it still feels a little puzzling that Hannah will return to 13 Reasons Why, considering that her particular story felt pretty thoroughly explored in the first season.

Having said all of that, based on some current fan theories and some of those lingering unresolved cliffhangers, there are a number of ways that Hannah could return to 13 Reasons Why:

Tony And Hannah's Mysterious Relationship

Throughout the show, it seemed strange that Hannah would have trusted Tony to the extent that she did, considering that they were barely shown hanging out together. Maybe there's a whole secret backstory there that could be explored in a second season.

Tyler's Troubling Collection Of Guns & Classmate Photos

In the 13 Reasons Why finale we saw how Tyler, who had previously stalked Hannah and distributed some deeply private images of her, appeared to be dealing with some pretty heavy issues of his own. Namely, an entire secret arsenal of weaponry, and some photos of his classmates that seemed to imply that he was either targeting these kids or simply keeping tabs on them.

While it's still a total mystery as to what Tyler is actually up to (although, let's be honest, none of it looks good), it doesn't seem too far fetched to imagine that Hannah could have feasibly left another message for him, prior to her death, asking that he use his surveillance skills for good. Maybe even to keep track of the kids featured on her tapes in a positive manner that could protect them, or act as evidence for some of their behavior.

A Potential Criminal Conviction For Bryce's Crimes

We all want to see Bryce go to jail for his crimes, right? And I'd like to think that, somehow, Hannah will make a return in Season 2 in order to overlook such a trial, or to provide flashbacks to Jessica (who was also sexually assaulted by him), in order to help her cope with her trauma of the event.

This is all wild speculation for now, especially since season 2 of the show hasn't even officially been confirmed yet. But, if it does happen, then I think we can all agree that Hannah's return would be interesting.
