'GLOW' Characters In & Out Of Costume
Erica Parise/Netflix
Talk about a time warp: GLOW is so deeply entrenched in the look and feel of the '80s that it's hard not to want to pop on a high-cut leotard and headband, swipe on some neon blue eyeshadow, and pop in your workout tapes after you marathon the show on Netflix. Due to the fantastically accurate '80s costuming, you might be surprised to see what the GLOW characters really look like. Of course the women and men of GLOW look totally different in real life, but you would still be surprised by just how much this cast transforms to bring this show to life.
What does the cast of GLOW look like in real life? You may have seen stars Brie Larson, Marc Maron, and Betty Gilpin on the red carpet or in interviews already, so it might not be as much of a surprise to see them in and out of their '80s garb. However, seeing actor Sydelle Noel (who plays Cherry) not doing roundhouse kicks in bell-bottoms jeans IRL or Gayle Rankin (who plays Sheila the She-Wolf) hit the red carpet sans frizzy black wig might throw you for a loop.
And so, without further ado, here's the cast of GLOW in their '80s incarnations and as their 2017 selves.
Gayle Rankin
Rankin looks decidedly tame (and very gorgeous) when she's not dressed as a she-wolf.
Alison Brie
As the protagonist of GLOW, Ruth is not a perfect person, but she's discovering who she truly is when she becomes a wrestler.
Alison Brie
Brie definitely cuts a "cool girl" figure in the real world.
Betty Gilpin
Don't mess with Debbie Eagan, the baddest queen bee on GLOW. Seriously, this former soap star will mess you up seven ways to Sunday.
Betty Gilpin
Gilpin looks as regal and kind as Debbie does, to be totally honest. What? You don't see it too?
Marc Maron
Sam Sylvia is a curmudgeonly B-movie director who's looking for some redemption as he brings GLOW to TV screens everywhere.
Marc Maron
Yeah, Maron is basically the 2017, hipster version of Sam Sylvia.
Britney Young
GLOW is Young's big break as she brings Carmen, the young woman from a wrestling family, to life.
Britney Young
The rumors appear to be true: Young is just as sweet as the character she plays on GLOW.
Sydelle Noel
You wouldn't want to mess with stuntwoman and trainer Cherry Bang, would you?
Sydelle Noel
Noel looks totally sweet as she emulates Gene Kelly in Singin' in the Rain.
Britt Baron
In GLOW, Baron plays the angsty, possibly way too underage wrestler Justine who's totally obsessed with the horror films of Sam Sylvia.
Britt Baron
Baron definitely doesn't look like a moody teen when she's in 2017 garb, right?
Kimmy Gatewood
Stacey Beswick (pictured on the left) is one half of the hairdressers from The Valley who loves a good prank call. Be careful when your phone rings.
Kimmy Gatewood
Gatewood, an established comedian and comedy writer, looks just as radiant in real life as she does on GLOW.
Kate Nash
Nash's first major foray into acting for television is as the delightfully daft Rhonda Richardson, also known as Britannica in the ring.
Kate Nash
Nash, pictured here with an envy-worthy Snoopy purse, is actually an established pop singer.
Sunita Mani
Mani, pictured second from the left, plays the studious college-age Arthie on GLOW and is totally the kind of wingwoman you need to help woo the hot pizza guy.
Sunita Mani
In real life, Mani is a pretty chill, street-selfie, beanie-wearing kind of person.
Marianna Palka
Check out Palka as the tomboyish, tough-talking Reggie Walsh.
Marianna Palka
Palka's maintained a lively career in indie films and TV before her big break in GLOW came along.
Kia Stevens
On GLOW, Steven rules the roost as Tammé Dawson. Her hair (and her attitude in the ring) is totally reminiscent of "What's Love Got to Do With It?"-era Tina Turner.
Kia Stevens
Stevens, pictured right, looks totally at ease as she chills with friends as a street fair.
Jackie Tohn
On GLOW, Tohn plays Melanie Rosen, the entitled, limo-driving wrestler who likes to live in the fast lane. Her style is all Madonna, all the time.
Jackie Tohn
Tohn looks pretty chill IRL.
Ellen Wong
Wong looks too cool as Jenny Chey in her technicolor wrestling leotard and matching headband and — get this — teased-out bangs.
Ellen Wong
You may recognize Wong (when she's not in a leotard) from her role in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
Chris Lowell
Lowell plays trust fund yuppie Bash on GLOW and his hair is as wild as his personality.
Chris Lowell
Don't worry: the 2017 version of Lowell is total heartthrob status.
Rich Sommer
In GLOW, Sommer plays the cheating husband of Debbie Eagan. Those sideburns are really something.
Rich Sommer
Looks like Sommer cleans up pretty nice when the occasion arises. Check out those specs!
