Gabi Gregg Wants Plus Size Women To Embrace Their Sexuality In Her New Lingerie Collection

by Marie Southard Ospina

Scrolling through images of the Gabifresh x Playful Promises plus size lingerie collection, it's clear that these are pieces Premme co-founder and style blogger Gabi Gregg designed with outspoken, unapologetic sexiness in mind. The 11-item line is a goldmine of mesh and sheer fabrications, harness bras, strappy briefs, and satin pajamas — in other words, every item exudes the aesthetic plus size consumers are regularly discouraged from wearing.

"Plus size women are often desexualized and left feeling like they are not worthy of beautiful lingerie or feeling sexy," Gregg tells Bustle in an interview. "Seeing representation of bodies that look similar to your own looking confident in skin-revealing pieces is really powerful and can be transformative."

The collection is comprised of predominantly black pieces, available in sizes 12 to 24, and cup sizes 36B to 44I. Mandy of the pieces are high-waisted, perhaps an homage to Gregg's swimsuit collections with swimsuitsforall. Gregg, often heralded the mother of the "fatkini" trend, has designed numerous swimwear lines that similarly rep high-waisted styles. They are often retro-inspired, subtly sexy, and a great option for shoppers who really want to wear a two-piece swimsuit, but aren't comfortable with a lower rise.

In her Playful Promises line, however, satiny, mesh, and lace high-waist briefs exist alongside low-rise options. "We [...] don’t believe that plus size lingerie should be all high waists and shapewear," a representative from Playful Promises tells Bustle. "Strappy and low-cut garments look just as amazing!" That's why both are available in this range, so that there truly is a little something for every taste.

The emphasis on extended cup sizes also makes this a standout line. "As a 38HH, I often feel left out of the cooler and sexier lingerie collections," Gregg tells Bustle. "Even at plus size stores, they will have pretty designs up to a DDD, and then basic bras for larger cup sizes; sometimes I'm sized out altogether." If there's one wish Gregg has for the plus size lingerie market, it's to see more retailers "carry a much larger range of cup sizes in sexy and playful designs that don't feel matronly or boring."

For now, she's doing her part to fill the void. Playful Promises was a brand Gregg wanted to work with because it takes risks with design. It has "so many cool statement pieces for a wide range of sizes." Recognizing that many larger-cupped babes still want access to bold, eye-catching bras has helped a collection such as this exist. And the demand is already evident, as E, F, and G cup sizes begin selling out in the collection's first 24 hours on the market.

"It’s incredibly important that women of size are not stripped of their sexuality," Playful Promises tells Bustle. "And we want to make it clear to everyone that all women deserve to feel sexy and confident."
