Your First Look At The ‘A Christmas Story Live!’ Cast Is Just As Funny As You’d Hoped

This holiday season, Fox is serving up a revamped sort of Christmas story. And, if the recently-announced cast of A Christmas Story Live! is any indication, the televised event (which airs Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. EST) is looking a lot like Saturday Night Live! meets Radio City's Christmas Spectacular, with a tinge of holiday-themed pop cultural nostalgia. You know, for good measure.

An homage to the feel-good '80s film (A Christmas Story) and the fleeting Broadway musical adaptation that came later (2012's A Christmas Story: The Musical), A Christmas Story Live! is set to revive the time-honored story of young Ralphie Parker and his holiday wish list. But, thanks to a stacked cast of funny people and a refurbished score, the three-hour production has a fresh spin on a beloved classic.

In addition to its star-studded headliner cast — which includes the likes of Matthew Broderick, Maya Rudolph, Jane Krakowski, Chris Diamantopoulos, and Ana Gasteyer — the upcoming production will also feature several original songs composed specifically for the event itself. Composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who co-penned the original score for A Christmas Story: The Musical (and have since reaped widespread critical acclaim for their work on Dear Evan Hansen), will unveil several freshly-minted jingles during the live television special. On top of that, Ken Jeong, David Alan Grier, and Canadian boy band PRETTYMUCH will also see a few snippets of screen time.

See the full cast list for A Christmas Story Live! below.

Matthew Broderick As The Narrator

TOMMY GARCIA / FOX

Matthew Broderick stars as the Narrator (aka Ralphie Parker all grown-up), rehashing the wacky happenings of his most cherished childhood Christmas. As far as experience goes, the actor is well-practiced at the art of the live performance. A two-time Tony Award recipient, Broderick has starred in a handful of major-league Broadway runs, including How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, The Producers, and Manchester by the Sea.

Maya Rudolph As Mother Parker

TOMMY GARCIA / FOX

Famed SNL funny gal Maya Rudolph will share the production's top-liner spot with Broderick. Rudolph co-stars as Mother Parker, otherwise known as Ralphie's mom. (Or, young Ralphie's mom, at least. Trying to imagine 45-year-old Rudolph playing parent to 55-year-old Broderick is, admittedly, sort of a stretch.)

Chris Diamantopoulos As Old Man Parker

TOMMY GARCIA / FOX

Actor-comedian Chris Diamantopoulos will play opposite Rudolph as Ralphie's father, Old Man Parker. Perhaps best known for his standout roles on Silicon Valley, Episodes, and Arrested Development, he is also a seasoned voice actor. Most recently, Diamantopoulos starred opposite Sara Bareilles in the breakout Broadway musical, Waitress.

Andy Walken As Ralphie Parker

TOMMY GARCIA / FOX

And, after a nationwide search, 11-year-old newcomer Andy Walken (who hails from Seattle, WA) has been cast in the time-honored role of young Ralphie Parker. Just look at that face.

Tyler Wladis As Randy Parker

TOMMY GARCIA / FOX

Similarly, adorable big-screen newbie Tyler Wladis (who's only 7 years old) will play Randy Parker, Ralphie's younger brother.

Jane Krakowski As Miss Shields

Tony Award winner Jane Krakowski (who starred in EP Scott Ellis' Broadway revamp of She Loves Me, as well as a handful of big-league stage productions before that) will appear in the featured role of Miss Shields.

Ana Gasteyer As Mrs. Schwartz

TOMMY GARCIA / FOX

Ana Gasteyer, who is perhaps best known for her comedic clout on Saturday Night Live (but who can also be seen playing opposite Maria Bamford on her Netflix comedy series, Lady Dynamite), will play Mrs. Shwartz, the mother of one of Ralphie's friends.

So, grab your coziest holiday sweater, pour yourself some eggnog, and curl up with your loved ones. Because (if the TV special's star-studded cast lives up to its laugh-out-loud reputation), this Christmas, you're in for one heck of a story. Fox's three-hour event kicks off at 7 p.m. sharp (EST) on Sunday, Dec. 17.
