In only half a season, This Is Us has given fans couple goals of all kinds. It also has fans nervous for the parts of the story that we still don't know. Does Rebecca cheat on Jack on This Is Us? The rocks in their relationship could point to further heartbreak down the road.
The Valentine's Day episode revealed that Rebecca and her bandmate Ben dated for a few months when they were younger. If she was going to cheat on Jack with anyone, it would probably be on tour with this guy, who seems to still have feelings for her. Ben of course is played by everyone's favorite sad puppy from True Blood, Sam Trammell. In an interview with US Weekly, Trammell speculated that “If I had to guess, because I don’t know Mandy’s character as well as she does, I would guess she’s not interested in having a relationship with this guy. It’s not about that. It’s about the band, and if she brings up the fact that I was an ex, it may hinder her dreams of singing. It may just complicate things."
Tuesday's episode "Memphis" is all about Randall and William's road trip, but the official description of the following episode "What Now" teases that "tensions are high between Jack and Rebecca as she leaves on tour with her band." Interesting.
Given the initial twist in the This Is Us pilot, it's not surprising that the series continues to build mystery on mystery. We don't know how Jack died, just that the Big Three were teenagers at the time, which really only narrows it down to a decade. We know that Rebecca and Miguel got married after Jack's death, but not whether or not they were both divorced at the time.
It's possible that Kevin's failed marriage is meant to mirror his own parents. I suppose it's also possible that Rebecca cheats on Jack with the newly single Miguel, her future second husband that all of her children are chilly towards at best. Despite his obvious and stated attraction, how Rebecca and Miguel ever got together is still wild to me.
However, I don't think that the Pearsons ever got divorced, and I honestly don't believe that Rebecca would ever cheat on Jack. She's done some bad things and lied in the past, but their love is the foundation of the show in so many ways. Keep your guard up, but I wouldn't worry too much.
