Not only was Debbie Reynolds a mother in real-life, but she also played one on television. After news broke of the actor's untimely death on Wednesday, Reynolds' TV daughter, Debra Messing, posted a touching tribute on Twitter. From 1999 to 2006, Messing and Reynolds starred alongside each other on Will & Grace. Reynolds played the character of Bobbi Adler, which even earned the 84-year-old an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2000.
Soon after the news of Reynolds' passing was announced, Messing posted the following tweet,
So heartsick. Debbie went to be with Carrie. It's such a devastating 1,2 punch. She was my "mom" for years & I loved her dearly.A legend.
Her tribute couldn't be more true. The news is undeniably heartbreaking, and Reynolds really was a legend. She had a career in Hollywood that spanned more than six decades. Her big break came in 1952's Singin' in the Rain, but she appeared in countless roles beyond that. Just a look at Reynolds' IMDb page will make anyone's jaw drop in awe.
Not only did Messing take to Twitter, but she also posted an Instagram. She elaborated on her tweet, posting a lengthy, heartfelt message in honor of Reynolds.
While the entire post is worth a read, here's a powerful excerpt from Messing's Instagram caption:
A devoted mother and grandmother, and aunt and great aunt, and friend. I lost my mom a few years ago. She loved that Debbie was my TV mom. I hope they find each other and hug and kiss and my mom says, "I got you, Debbie. Carrie's waiting for you." RIP Bobbie Adler.
And because there's no better time to revisit a Will & Grace scene, here's one that was a clear homage to Reynolds' role in Singin' in the Rain.
As proven by Messing's posts and other outpourings on social media, Reynolds will be dearly missed. She was a legend indeed.
