2016 just keeps hitting us with bad news. Just a day after Star Wars legend Carrie Fisher died, TMZ claimed that Fisher's mother Debbie Reynolds was reportedly rushed to the hospital following a medical emergency. According to TMZ, Reynolds is believed to have suffered a "possible stroke" at her son Todd Fisher's home in Beverly Hills. An ambulance reportedly arrived at the home at 1 p.m. to take Reynolds to a nearby emergency room. A representative for Reynolds could not be immediately reached, but Bustle will update in the event that we receive a statement or comment. Update: TMZ reported that Reynolds has died at age 84. According to the site, the actor's son, Todd Fisher, claimed Reynolds' last words were, "I miss her so much, I want to be with Carrie."
Earlier: According to TMZ, Reynolds was reportedly at her son's home to discuss funeral arrangements for Fisher. The site also claimed that the 84-year-old actor has been "distraught" following the untimely passing of her 60-year-old daughter. Meanwhile, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson confirmed to People that they responded to a “request for medical aid” this afternoon at Todd's home. They “transported one adult female patient in fair to serious condition to Cedars [Sinai Medical Center].”
Following Fisher's death, Reynolds posted a message to Facebook thanking "everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter. I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers that are now guiding her to her next stop.” The mother-daughter duo filmed a documentary, Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher & Debbie Reynolds, which is slated to air on HBO in March 2017.
Reynolds has been making movies for 68 years, starting with an uncredited role in the 1948 film, June Bride. It was her role starring opposite Gene Kelly in Singin' In The Rain that would make her famous. Reynolds went on to earn a Best Actress Oscar nomination for 1964's The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and most recently, she played Liberace's mom in the 2013 HBO film Behind the Candelabra. Reynolds also become known for playing Grace Adler's mom Bobbie on Will & Grace and Aggie Cromwell in Disney's Halloweentown series. In 2015, Reynolds earned the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award.
Here's hoping that Reynolds has a speedy recovery. There's already been too much sadness for one week.
