It was the Bachelor in Paradise kiss heard 'round the world (or at least throughout Bachelor Nation) — and one that left the two doing the kissing very confused. While chatting with host Kelsea Stahler for Bustle's Will You Accept This Podcast?, Danielle Maltby opened up about kissing Wells Adams before the neonatal nurse voluntarily left the show to go do pediatric work in Africa.

"I feel like, you know, we kind of broke the internet with that moment," she says. "It’s been really tough, because, first and foremost, Wells and I have been best buddies for years. I think that we both kind of wanted to kiss each other and see if there was anything there and he went for it in paradise, so, I’m not complaining."

But even as good as the kiss was (like she declared on her way out of BiP), Danielle can't believe the attention they continue to receive. "People were like, 'Oh my, god, are you engaged?'" she says. "That’s the first time we kissed. You don’t just kiss someone and then get engaged. That’s not how life works, people."

And thanks to all of the media attention and the passionate shippers, Danielle has become just as unsure about her potential romance with Wells as he is. She admits,

"All the media attention has been, it’s, like, everyone wants it so bad that we haven’t had a second to really be like, ‘Is this something we really want to do?’ We have a very tight-knit friend group at home too and we just don’t wanna make waves. If something is going to happen, it’s gonna happen, it’s gonna grow organically."

In September, Wells spoke with Glamour about his now famous kiss with Danielle and provided an update on their relationship today. Basically, he feels the same way that she does. "I realize America is really shipping this thing, but we are so far away from that, mainly because we haven’t been around one another," he said. According to Wells, as of September, Danielle had only been home for a few weeks, so they haven't really had that much time together.

Wells continued,

"It's a weird thing coming home and watching the show back and feeling so much pressure from everyone else to make something you’re not sure is there to begin with. And I think the magnetism needs to happen naturally and not forced from outside forces. I understand everyone wants us to be a thing and that’s wonderful and beautiful, but if it’s going to happen, it needs to happen because we come together, not because everyone else is shipping us so hard on Twitter."

At this point in time, it's not clear if they will get together or not, but it sure sounds like they just need time to figure things out, and understandably so. Only they know if something romantic is truly there or not. Plus, when it comes to two friends pursuing something romantic, it certainly has its challenges, like actually taking a risk and taking that first step. If you add all of the extra attention and stress from fans, well, that would definitely make things a bit more difficult.

That said, they are still hanging out, so that's definitely a good sign. They both recently attended Carly Waddell and Evan Bass' baby shower. As Danielle says about where their relationship stands currently, "We’re still really good friends and just kind of seeing what could happen, I guess. We’re just focusing back on the friends and [we'll] see." As for Wells, he told Glamour, "Yes, there’s definitely hope for us."

As exciting as their kiss was, if you really want Danielle M. and Wells to work out, then you probably should give them some breathing room. That just might be the key to a future romance.
