Fans Can. Not. Handle. ‘The Bachelorette’ Proposal

by Martha Sorren
ABC

Fans have known for the whole season that Rachel got engaged at the end of The Bachelorette she spoiled her own season in pre-show press. But, that can't take away from witnessing the moment in all its glory. Bryan proposed to Rachel on The Bachelorette during Monday's finale, giving her the happy ending she wanted. After turning Peter down, Rachel gave Bryan her final rose and he slipped that giant Neil Lane ring on her finger. They were both all smiles, and it was really sweet. But, that being said, it wasn't necessarily the ending that fans wanted.

All season long, many viewers expressed disinterest in Bryan while building Peter up. So, when Rachel went against the fan favorite and picked Bryan, Twitter was less than pleased. Bachelor Nation members were quick to weigh in with judgements about Rachel's choice, and I don't really think that's fair. At the end of the day, we're watching a TV show and it's edited for a specific narrative. We don't know Bryan in real life, we don't know Rachel's connection with him, and it's not our place to say whether they will or won't work out. And, if Rachel wasn't that into Peter, that's her business. Maybe it just means Bachelor Nation will get him as our next leading man. Rachel could have done us a favor, really. But, based on these tweets, it's gonna take more than that to turn fans' anger around.

The Reaction GIFs Came Out

Using Bryan's own face in a post about being mad about Bryan is way harsh, Tai.

People Felt Betrayed

They were ROOTING FOR YOU, Rachel.

Even Bryan Fans Are Mad

That's how you know people are pissed.

People Woke Up The Next Day & Are Still Mad

Same, kinda.

Ultimately, though, it's not up to fans who Rachel picks. If she thinks Bryan is her best shot at Happily Ever After, then more power to her — and more Peter for us.
